Stance

The facts

The most neglected aspect of golf instruction. Period.

And yet, your stance influences your dynamic posture and swing sequence. The great Jack Nicklaus once said that setup was 80% of the golf swing - cannot argue with that.

The reality

The posture you adopt everyday influences the way you set up at the ball. It is influenced by lifestyle, breathing patterns, core strength, etc.

The good news

Improving your stance is not only beneficial to golf, but will improve your overall quality of life.

Training method

The most effective training tool for stance is awareness - I like to call them posture checks that you do a couple of times a day.

dynamic posture

The facts

If your stance is not correct, or if you cannot maintain correct body segment angles during the swing, your brain comes up with a compensation pattern so you can still hit the golf ball. These patterns are also called swing flaws, such as slide/sway, flying elbow/chicken wing, coming over-the-top, etc.

The reality

Dynamic posture is all about your ability to move body segments in different orientation. It requires strength, mobility and challenges your balance.

As we age, the likelihood of fall-related injury increases.

The good news

Working on dynamic posture will improve your balance, both on and off the golf course.

Working on swing sequence without first tackling stance and dynamic posture is just a plain waste of time.

The good news

Improvements to your swing sequence happen pretty much on their own, as you improve dynamic posture.

The reality

Dynamic posture is all about working in 3 orientations, rotation, torquing, twisting. It requires balance.
